The Parramatta river edge proposal is an urban strategy to integrate the city of Parrmatta to its river edge origin.
The location of the site in between the Parramatta Park and the city edge, between the City and the riverside theatres demands an intervention that fluidly connects the city while creating a new engaging urban space.
The city of Parramatta has turned its back towards the river. The Riverside Theatres completely express this negation, neither connected to the Parramatta River edge nor to the Prince Alfred Park.
plaza + pedestrian bridge + laneways
The project we propose is of a multifunctional tower located above the Parramatta river, with a three legged structure that physically connects the city with the theatres and the future Art and culture precint.
The tower by opening its base allows for Marsden street to flow towards the city and to connect the theatres through a new pedestrian bridge to the core of the laneways in the city, creating the attractor for further pedestrian flow.
The operation creates a new landmark that could potentially become part of the civic imagery of the city. The tower will have an extraordinary relationship to the Parrmatta River with a series of different views of the Australian landscape.
multifunctional tower
The tower contains the potential to generate new activities like an art gallery in level +11, and unconventional civic spaces like an elevated public plaza in level +13. While commercially the lease of office and residential spaces or a boutique hotel from level +20 to +30 allows for the construction of the civic and public spaces.
theatres between the park + river
We propose to occupy the former Market street and the parking spaces of the Riverside theatres in order to generate a new parking space for theatres and tower. Also to erase all the dysfunctional spaces that block the relationship of the theatres to the river by placing them in the former patio.
Continuing the urban integration examples of Sidney Opera House and Federation Square the proposal is to create an urban plaza that connects the buildings while it generates an underground functional connection of the activities.
This creates new potential where new activities can be generated in the roof top of this new structure that fluidly and gently connects the theatres to the city and creates a civic space between Alfred Park and the River.
Underneath the Lobby and restaurants can be reorganized for a better relationship to the river.
old and new terraces
In the core of the Lennox street precint we propose to create a new landscape that slopes towards the river in order to generate a series of new terraces that can be permanently or temporally occupied. In the back of the Church street commercial spaces new activities could emerge with a connection to the landscape and new urban spaces.
The landscape can also be occupied temporally with food, design or antique markets that bring new and diverse activities to the river edge.

La propuesta para el borde del rio en Parramatta es una estrategia urbana de integración de la ciudad con el rio que le dio origen.
La ubicación del sitio entre el parque de Parramatta y el borde de la ciudad, entre la ciudad y los teatros Riverside demanda una intervención que conecte de manera fluida la ciudad al tiempo que genera un integrado espacio urbano.
La ciudad de Parramatta le ha dado la espalda al rio. Los teatros riverside expresan completamente esta negación, sin relación con el rio Parramatta ni el parque Prince Alfred.
plaza +puente peatonal + callejones
El proyecto que proponemos es el de una torre multifuncional localizada sobre el rio Parramatta, con una estructura de 3 apoyos que conecta físicamente la ciudad con los teatros y el futuro centro de Arte y Cultura.
La torre al abrir su base permite la calle Marsden fluir hacia la ciudad y conectar los teatros por medio de un nuevo puente peatonal con el núcleo de callejones peatonales en la ciudad, creando un atractor para el futuro flujo peatonal.
La operación crea un nuevo hito que se puede convertir en parte de la imagen civica de la ciudad. La torre tendría una extraordinaria relación con el rio Parramatta por medio de diferentes perspectivas del paisaje Australiano.

La torre contiene el potencial de generar nuevas actividades como una galería en el nivel +11, y espacios cívicos no convencionales como una plaza pública elevada en el nivel +13. Mientras que comercialmente la renta de espacios de oficina, residenciales o de un hotel boutique del nivel +20 al +30 permite la construcción de los espacios públicos y cívicos.
teatros entre parque + río
Proponemos ocupar el espacio de la actual calle Market y los espacios de estacionamiento de los teatros Riverside para generar un nuevo espacio de estacionamiento para la torre y los teatros. Proponemos también borrar todos los espacios dis-funcionales que bloquean la relación de los teatros con el río localizándolos en el antiguo patio.
Continuando con los ejemplos de integración urbana de la Opera de Sydney y Federation Square la propuesta es crear una plaza que conecta los edificios al mismo tiempo de crear una conexión de las actividades por medio del subsuelo. Esto crea nuevo potencial donde nuevas actividades se pueden generar en la cubierta de esta nueva estructura que conecta de manera gentil y fluida los teatros con la ciudad y crear un espacio cívico entre el parque Alfred y el Río.
viejas y nuevas terrazas
En e núcleo del recinto comercial de la calle Lennox proponemos la creación de un nuevo paisaje que desciende hacia el río para generar una serie de nuevas terrazas que pueden ser ocupadas permanente o temporalmente. En la parte posterior de la calle Church nuevas actividades comerciales pueden emerger en conexión con el paisaje y los nuevos espacios urbanos.
El paisaje se puede ocupar temporalmente con mercados de productos locales, diseño o antigüedades atrayendo nuevas y diversas actividades al borde del río.
